Welcome

Are you looking for something new to fill the long, balmy summer evenings, then what better than taking part in a gentle but challenging game of bowls on the local club green?

Burton on Stather Bowls Club is always looking for new members to take up the sport. The season lasts from the beginning of May to the end of August with most of the matches played on a weekday evening.

Burton Bowls Club currently has approximately 60 members, coming mainly from Burton and the surrounding villages.

The club is affiliated to the Humberside County Bowling Association and Full bowling members enjoy a busy outdoor bowling season, competing for the club in four different leagues. They frequently bowl 2 or 3 evenings a week and often at weekend’s in the short four month season.

Members play at all levels from beginners through to County and National competition level, where we have regular members in County teams and a County Selector. The club was honoured in 2009 when its then Chairman David Nash was appointed National President of the English Bowling Federation and subsequently he was appointed to the EBF National Executive where he served as the National Publicity Officer.

The club is lucky to have a beautiful green on the south eastern edge of the village, which is solely maintained by the members, and there is a very attractive brick clubhouse overlooking the green. The green was built in the mid 1980’s, on land acquired for the purpose by the Parish Council who also give valuable financial help to this small club. The clubhouse was opened in 2018 by our local MP.

The club has an active social programme including an annual club bowling tournament, where full bowling members can compete in different competitions, culminating in an annual dinner and prize presentation. The club has an annual coffee morning and also holds an end of season club competition finals weekend BBQ which is now one of the social highlights.
